Question Number: 13667

League Specific 9/5/2006

RE: Adult

roger of richmond hill, canada asks...

This question is a follow up to question 13625

Thanks to all for their input. However, I did not get the answer I was looking for.

Here is my question, to the point: Soccer World Cup: How much do those referees get paid (per game, per week, etc.)? Do they actually "draw" a regular salary and is there such a thing as "professional referee" in soccer (not footbal!)?

Thanks.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

They get paid per game. Not 100% sure what it is. Most are there for pride and joy and love rather than collecting cash.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

The referees there were paid for the first match and subsequent matches were gratis. Of course the first match fee was in excess of most peoples annual income. Referees in the highest professional football leagues in Britain are salaried.

Regards,
