Question Number: 13709

Law 4 - Players Equipment 9/9/2006

RE: Select Under 13

Franco of Loogootee, Indiana USA asks...

Do you know of any rule (FIFA, youth, high school, college) that states the socks and jersey must match?

My duaghter's team (U13 select) said a ref made them change their red socks to white socks because they had on white jerseys.

I have never heard such a rule!
Franco

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Sometimes referees will insist on a team having the same color stockings if the opponents are wearing one of the colors. Having three quarters of the legs with the same color is too much to handle.

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

I have not but USSF has ruled that the socks much match. That is to say, a player may not wear one blue and one white. If the other team in your question had red socks, I would have made your team change also as it's too confusing with both teams same color
