Question Number: 13978

Kicks From The Penalty mark 9/30/2006

RE: Under 14

franco of Bloomington, IN USA asks...

DFK fouls in the opponents penalty area and committed by the opponent is a penalty kick (PK), a free kick awarded from a penalty.

What do you call kicks taken from the penalty mark at end of game to determine a winner?
They don't seem to be penalty kicks since they are not being awarded for a penalty from a foul, but they are from the penalty mark.

I hear them referred to as PKs, but I usually say kicks from a shootout. What is correct?

How do you report the score?

Franco

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Franco if you would read the laws
PROCEDURES TO DETERMINE THE WINNER OF A MATCH OR HOME-AND-AWAY they are referred to as
Kicks from the penalty mark!
Score? Just follow the procedures record the 5 versus 5 and subsequent shot for shot additional attempts if required. this is a procedure to determine a winner. On a scoring sheet you record it as a tie /shootout victory
Cheers

Kicks from the penalty mark. There is a separate procedure for this.

You are 100% correct and I'm tired of seeing people referee to kicks from the penalty mark as "penalty kicks". Clearly they are not as no foul has occurred.

Kicks from the mark. Reduce to equate. Five from each team must kick...then one for one. Depends on the league's game card and regulations regarding scoring.
