Question Number: 14041Character, Attitude and Control 10/4/2006RE: Rec Under 11 Brian Bergin of Boone, NC USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 14018 So what does a coach do when their goalies are being abused like this? Shut up and let the incompetent refs ignore it all game or do we just walk away and forfeit? After they ignored me, which is their right, I was very close to leaving, but that only hurts the rest of my kids. IMHO, refs should either step up or get out. Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino If you felt the safety of your keeper was in jeopardy due to the lack of calls by this or any other referee, you are obligated to take your players off the field. This may seem drastic but yelling at the referee will do no good and if the actions transpired as you say they did, I see no other recourse, keeping in mind that we don't have the benefit of asking the referee what he saw.

Speaking of stepping up or getting out, the ball is in your court, take his place as referee.
