Question Number: 14045League Specific 10/5/2006RE: Varsity High School M. Baechle of Trenton, MO USA asks...In High School play, does the clock stop when your score a goal?
What is the rule about when a game ends? We had a situation where our player kicked the ball. As the ball was rolling towards the goal, the referee blew his whistling, ending the game. The ball was still in play and went into the net for a goal, the line ref called it a goal. The center ref said no goal. If a ball is in play don't you have to finish the play before you can end the game? Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller Yes. The game ends when the buzzer goes off. Note the difference between High School and USSF. In USSF, the referee ends the game and usually will not end it until play is over (although referee does not have to). In high school buzzer ends game.

View Referee Ben Mueller profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer The timer shall start the timing device when the ball is put into play and stop the timing for a caution, a disqualification, following the scoring of a goal and when an official orders time to be stopped.
When the referee blows his whistle the ball is no longer in play. It matters not if the ball is still moving, play ceases.
