Question Number: 14297Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/28/2006RE: Grade 8 High School Kevin Davies of Lexington, MA USA asks...In a recent High School Varsity game, the goalkeeper picked up the ball following a deliberate back pass about 2 yards from the near post. I awarded an indirect free kick at the spot she picked up the ball, but my dual referee said the ball should be placed on the six-yard box line. While I realise this is the case for most IFKs, isn't the pass back rule an exception? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer In all cases, I know of, any indirect free kick awarded the attack within their opponent's goal area is taken on the line six yards from and parallel to the goal line at the point nearest where the infraction occurred. This is the first question in long time where a dual system of control actually helped, very unusual.
Regards,

There never is a free kick taken inside goal area for attackers.
