Question Number: 14610Character, Attitude and Control 12/18/2006RE: Rec Under 17 Eric van Pelt of Lelystad, Flevoland Netherlands asks...I read about a ref having shown 3 x a Red card to the same player. One while on the soccer field, one during half time and one afterwards when the player had to report to the ref about the incidents.
Is this allowed and how many times can a ref show a red card? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Eric, all I can say is that referee and that player really had issues in that match ! In accordance with the laws of the game a player once shown the red card is sent off and no longer participates in play. ANY further disreputable actions are additional misconduct but no cards are to be shown. I can only surmise that security was likely needed for the player and a refresher on the mechanics for showing a card are reviewed for the referee! Either that or the story was embellished to add flavour to the reader! cheers
