Question Number: 14803Law 18 - Common Sense 2/5/2007RE: Competive Adult Cory of menifee, ca U.S.A. asks...What is the closest thing to the perfect game that you have ever had? Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino I've never had one but the BEST 2 games I think I've ever done were a U 14 boys night game about 3 years ago where everytime I moved I ended up where I wanted to be. Only a couple of cautions and a very competative game. I tend to view games in which I've issued a lot of cards as failures. I don't hesitate to show cards as needed but pride myself on being able to contro; the game verbally. The other was a U19 select girls game where the same thing happened. Best AR I ever did was a U17 Classic Boys on which I was asked to work with a State Center and Grade 7 as other AR. Felt I nailed every offside, called fouls as needed and never got caught napping.

I've never considered perfection, but there are several games that I remember as being fun. Games I enjoyed for a variety of reasons - because they caused me to stretch my abilities, or because the players, coaches and spectators were all there for the right reasons, or because it was wonderful to see the skills of the players from the best seat in the house. (Well, not seat exactly, I was moving about!)
Oh, and if ever about midway through the 2nd half you're thinking, "Yes, this is my perfect game" - Watch out! Something will happen if you get complacent.

Regards,
