Question Number: 15283

Character, Attitude and Control 4/25/2007

RE: Select Adult

EM Pearson of Medina, TN USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 15248

Just a comment on Mr. Ian Pearl. I am trying to get a mental image of this expert and connoisseur sitting in his easy chair at home and refereeing EPL matches by watching slow mos on the telly from 17 angles. This is a pretty funny picture. Let me help you, Mr. Pearl. It's real different when you are on the pitch, the whistle in your hand, and 22 players looking at you ready to start a match.

However, that said, I am all for perfection and as soon as we find perfect referees who can instantaneously make impeccable calls over thousands of decisions then I think we should hire them all.

The really amusing suggestion is hiring old pros to referee. What a hoot. Mr. Pearl is a Londoner-- maybe he would like to have seen George Best or Charlie George in a black shirt after they couldn't run any more. Or from today's game, how about Wayne Rooney, that pillar of poise and probity, for center ref in the 2020 FA Cup Final.
