Question Number: 15486

Law 3 - Number of Players 5/15/2007

RE: High School High School

Dan of Westside, SOuth Carolina United States asks...

What is the penalty for having 12 players on the field? Recently in a local high school championship one side played 12 players for 38 minutes in the second half.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

Only allowed 11. The 12th should be asked to leave the field and cautioned and shown the yellow card. If a goal is scored by this team and the 12th player is noticed BEFORE play restarts, the goal is disallowed

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

The referee should stop game, caution extra player, restart with an IFK at spot of ball when play stoped for non guilty team. If they played this long with 12, then the referee really screwed up. This should be reported to the league.
