Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

A goal kick is a method of restarting play when the ball goes out of play over the goal line having been last touched by the attacking side. (Other than situations where this happens and a goal is scored).

The ball is then placed at any position within the goal area and the ball is in play when it is kicked and leaves the penalty area into the field of play.

Nothing else can be considered a goal kick. If the goalkeeper punts the ball, this is not known as a goal kick.
