Question Number: 15711Character, Attitude and Control 6/5/2007RE: rec Under 12 tyler houston of henderson , nevada u.s. asks...what happens to a ref if he assaults a coach ? going crazy yelling and screaming while pointing in his chest. a coach gets banned for life if he does it. what happens or should happen to a ref? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Lets see, what happens when a referee behaves like some coaches do. He is severely disciplined by the State Referee Administrator. Basically the same thing as happens to the coach except it isn't public.

View Referee Chuck Fleischer profileAnswer provided by Referee Steve Montanino I don't know of any coach who is or has ever been banned for life for pointing their finger in the chest of a referee. Certainly multiple year bans have been enacted.
That said, the punishment should be equal if the ref assaults a coach - AND I think it best that the coach call the cops and have the referee arrested if they physically assault the coach. No person should have to put up with being assaulted.
