Question Number: 16008

League Specific 7/12/2007

RE: NFHS High School

Dave Eberle of Clarkston, W USA asks...

Our high school league calls for Kicks from the Penalty Mark to settle tied matches.

Some referees allow coaches to be with their teams in the center circle during this procedure, other referees require coaches to stay by their sidelines. Our league does not specify a certain way.

Which way do you recommend?

Thank you for your advice.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

According to NFHS rules the coach may enter and ALL players may participate in kicks from the penalty mark. There is no reduce to equate.

The reason for this being the way it is: "Infinite Wisdom".

Regards,

Hi Dave,
all I can say I am glad Ref Fleischer is on hand to educate us on the wonderful world of new and improved laws that highschool soccer seems to add or fix!
Under FIFA soccer the coach can enter initially and after the reduce to equate when the PKs are ready to begin the coach must returm to the technical area so only the players . Cheers
