Question Number: 16089Kicks From The Penalty mark 7/23/2007RE: Premier Under 17 Gavin of Andover, MN USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 16081 Thank you for clarification. The answer was as expected [16081].
I just wanted to add that many people believe that, during a penalty shootout, when the ball is traveling away from the goal (i.e. off the post), that the attempt is over, (and do not take this type of rebound into consideration)and that this is only the case for penalty shootouts. FYI.
Thanks again,
GP Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Gavin, You are certainly welcome it is another one of the many myths of the game we try to dispell. Maybe one day those thinking that wrong way will take a moment to read the laws of the game Maybe! Cheers

Because you have had a belief in the Laws found to be, in fact, a correct belief you are hereby given special permission, by this unofficial source, to shout at the referee, who makes this mistake, once. Please use this special dispensation wisely!! I would, also, recommend you print 16081 and this answer so when you attend, a possible, disciplinary hearing the referee can be put right. Myths may be dispeled in many ways...
Regards,
