Question Number: 16261Law 16 - Goal Kick 8/10/2007RE: amateur Under 12 David Morley of Wellington, New Zealand asks...How many other players on the defensive side (other than the goalkeeper) are allowed in the 18 yard area when a goal kick is being taken ? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney All of them! Not very practical, of course, but legal. The only folks who can't be in the penalty area on a goal kick are those on the attacking side.

any team mate of the keeper is welcome inside the penalty area on a goal kick . Tactically this allows the defenders to always be goal side, not standing to the side if an attacker is just outside the penalty area. Remember though, no player from either team can play the ball until after it has completely left the penalty area! Cheers
