Question Number: 16502League Specific 8/30/2007RE: high School soccer team High School Caleb Steele of Tucson , Arizona United States asks...For High School, What is the maximum hieght, from ankle to shin guard, can be?
Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Since the 2003/2004 season the shinguard has started 2 inches above the ankle. Next year the shinguard is going to be required to have printed on it compliance with a National standard of NFHS's choosing. Since 2002/3 shinguards have been required to be bigger than the postage stamps high school boys think are so cool. By the biggest ones you can find and wear them in accordance with the 2" minimum rule and you'll be OK. Wear smaller ones and you might not be able to play AND you coach will get a caution because he didn't ensure you complied with the rule. That's a new high school rule this year. For the rest of the world of Football these rules apply to US high school only.
