Question Number: 16661Law 7 - Match Duration 9/12/2007RE: Competetive in the past, enthusiast now College Paul of The Hague, - Netherlands asks...In tonight's Euro 2008 qualifier Albania v Holland, an amount of six minutes of stoppage time was indicated by the fourth official (if I am not mistaken). However, in what I believe was the 94th minute, the referee blew the final whistle after fireworks were thrown at a player. Given that the Laws provide that the stoppage time indicated is a *minimum*, shouldn't this game be considered abandonded? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer In Law 7 we find the referee will make allowance for time lost due to a number of things. AND the allowance for time lost is at the discretion of the referee. The Laws do not state that the time indicated is a "minimum" number, television commentators and stadium announcers say that. It is almost as if they're paid by the number of words spoken and not the accuracy of their utterances?
Regards,
