Question Number: 16704Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 9/15/2007RE: Select Under 15 Conor McGrail of Dayton, Ohio USA asks...I was refereeing a couple of school teams that play with high school rules. The ball was kicked by the other team, and stopped a couple yards outside of the 18. The keeper then dribbled the ball into the box, and then picked it up. Is this legal? Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino If the ball came from the opposing team, or if it was not deliberately kicked to him by his teammate then yes it is fine to do.

View Referee Steve Montanino profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer The goalkeeper is permitted to handle the ball within his own penalty area, subject to the four goalkeeper offences listed in Rule 12. He may not use his hands when the ball is deliberately kicked to him by a team mate, arrives directly from a team mate's throw-in, for more than six seconds or after he has released it from his possession and it has not touched an opponent or a team mate outside his penalty area.
