Question Number: 16727Law 16 - Goal Kick 9/16/2007RE: High School Aaron of Pittsburgh, pennsylvania USA asks...Does a goal kick have to be played forward? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson No a goal kick, in fact any free kick by the defenders within the PA must be played out of the penalty area to be legally in play . So one can kick it towards the corner posts. Realize that if you kick the ball over the goal line before it clears the PA it will be a retake as it must clear the boundries to be in play! Cheers
