Question Number: 16794Mechanics 9/19/2007RE: REC Under 16 Paul of Barstow, CA USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 16477 When a player is injured and the coach goes onto the field must the injured player leave the game? And if so when can he or she be re inserted into the game. Thank you Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol If the game is stopped to attend to an injured player, and a coach or medic is called out, the player must go off. He may reenter from the sideline once play has resumed, when the referee beckons him on.
In many leagues with free substitution and reentry, the player could be subbed out. He could then be subbed back in at the next substitution opportunity. That might be the wiser thing to do with youth, so you as coach have a few more moments to make sure the player really is OK to go.

He may not return until play has restarted. At that point he may return with the referee's permission over one of the touchlines (sidelines).
