Question Number: 16946

League Specific 9/27/2007

RE: High School

Rich Gregory of Champaign, IL USA asks...

I have had trouble getting clarification on the results of a red card in Illinois Boys High School Soccer.

What is the result of a straight red card for misconduct?

Is there a different result for a red card as a result of two yellows?

Is there a different result for a player vs. a coach who receives a red card?

I appreciate your help.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Red cards carry an automatic 1 game suspension aside from the expulsion in the game it is incurred in. Further suspensions, discipline, fines or sanctions will be based on the NATURE of the misconduct as decided by the league disciplinary committee!
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

NFHS recommends leagues adopt a policy that a disqualified player miss the next match, at least. It is left to the local organization to effect this policy. Because of the sportsmanship policy of the NFHS I would hope a coach disqualified would suffer a greater ban than a player but I know what the chance of that happening is.

Regards,
