Question Number: 17238

Character, Attitude and Control 10/10/2007

RE: College

jewel of san juan, trinidad and tobago asks...

what are the penalties for violent misconduct involving two players after a game.where a weapon is used by one player to inflict bodily harm on another.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Ensure immediate medical aid to the injured and some JAIL time escorted by the local police for the other! Criminal behavior even if technically violent conduct as deplorable and pathetic and upsetting a referee ensures the participants are identified properly by who did what to whom! The match report includes all relevant details so the disciplinarians of soccer and human behavior are not wasting their time and the lifelong ban and court dates are easy to set!
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

This should be administered by the local authorities. I have used a copy of my referee's match report as evidence in a misdemeanor assault after a match. The report was sufficient to start the wheels of justice and my presence in court was not needed, the report stood on its own. The report is an official document of the match and carries much weight.

Regards,
