Question Number: 17305

Law 9 - The Ball in and out of Play 10/14/2007

RE: rec Under 13

Tim of Three Rivers, Mi USA asks...

Team A is taking a corner kick. They player kicks it over the end line but then while in the air it curves back into the field of play. Is this ball out even though it never hit the ground while over the end line

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi Tim,
the boundry lines are like an invisable 5 inch wall extending straight up if the ball can be determined to have gone outside that wall the ball is out of play and off a corner reverts to a goal kick.
That is why the AR positions himself along the flag opposite to get that perspective
cheers

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

If the ball goes completely over the goal line either in the air or on the ground it is out of play. What you describe results in a goal kick
