Question Number: 17499

Mechanics 10/24/2007

RE: Classic Under 16

Bill Sayre of Greenwood, SC USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 17454

Follow up to my earlier question 17454: From my vantage point, it appeared the ball hit the intersection of the upright and the crossbar and never entered the goal nor passed over the goal line, but I was about 60 yards away. Perhaps the ball did hit the frame behind the goal line, outside the left upright. If that is what only the AR and the hapless defender saw, or thought they saw, the correct restart would have been a goal kick out.

The main point I was questioning is once a PK is awarded, taken, and succefully completed, it should not have been then disallowed in this manner. You confirmed that in fine fashion, as usual ;-) .
Luckily, there was no impact on the outcome, as our team won by a wide margin.

Thanks again for your service to us! I especially liked Mr. Fleischer's suggestion for the AR's flagstick - brilliant!

Thanks. I felt compelled to come up with something done where the sun is shining even though my first thoughts involved darkness...

Hi Bill. Thanks for clarification. I had a hard time visualizing how a goal kick would have happened.
