Question Number: 17754Law 16 - Goal Kick 11/7/2007RE: Rec Adult samy saleeb of daphne, al baldwin asks...A defender kicked a goal kick sideways, the ball went through the back line before it left the penalty area. The Referee called it a corner kick. I thought it should have been a repeat goal kick since the ball was not in play. Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney And you would be correct (if by "back line" you meant goal line)! When are you signing up for the next referee class, please? A goal kick must exit the penalty area into the field in order to be in play. If it doesn't, we retake the kick.
