Question Number: 18018Law 4 - Players Equipment 11/28/2007RE: Adult Tom of Kingsport, TN USA asks...Do all college soccer teams have a jersey with number 10 that an outstanding dribbler and passer wears in a game? Are some rules different in college and high school?
Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller This would not make sense. Many times the captain wears jersey 10, but not always.

That is just an honor of tradition and is not required in any code of laws or rules governing soccer.
The sport of Rugby requires certain positions wear certain numbers and there is some form of this restriction in American professional NFL football.

The college and high school rules do specify the numbers be different for each player and if numbers are worn on the trousers they match the shirt number.
