Question Number: 18146

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 12/17/2007

RE: Select Adult

Mark K of Westport, CT USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 18134

Looking at the segment of the video she refers to it [18134] appears that the players has positioned himself off the field of play purposefully so as to ambush the keeper once the ball has been placed on the ground back in to play. Is this not cautionable either as Leaving the FOP without permission or for USB? With an IFK out?

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Mark what you don't see in the video is how the player came to be off the field. You and I don't know if he is there through the normal run of play or not. This is why video evidence means nothing unless the entire sequence of play is available. The person submitting the video probably only wanted to show what not paying attention leads to.

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

There's so much going on in the video that I just assumed she was there legally. She had every right to play the ball once the keeper put the ball on the ground.
