RE: Select Under 15

Dave E of Clarkston, WA USA asks...

Throw-in Responsibilities

During a throw-in, is it best that the Lead AR watch the thrower's feet and the referee watch the thrower's arms?

Different referees have been giving me various methods to follow.

Thank you. Your website is very helpful.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

This should be discussed in the pregame. Different officiating crews will handle this differently

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

I prefer that the assistant not watch the thrower because I am. When the assistant and I are watching one player who is responsible for watching the other 21 players? The math just doesn't work to my advantage here. I watch, the assistants watch the others. Now If I must pay attention to something I will call out the name of the assistant who will watch 100% of the thrower.

Regards,

And I usually tell my ARs to watch the thrower as I'm watching the other players
