Question Number: 18272

Law 1- The Field 1/21/2008

RE: Adult

Phil Holder of Birmingham, UK asks...

Why are some corner flags retangle and some triangle. I believe it`s something to do with if a club has won the FA cup, but want this clarified

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Truth is I have no idea beyond using an Internet search engine and finding other folks saying what you're saying. Writing the FA would reveal their policies. As far as the Laws of the Game are concerned corner flagposts must be at each corner and there must be a flag as well. The Law doesn't go beyond saying the flagpost has a non-pointed top and at least five feet high.

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

I don't know about anything to do with an FA cup but I have seen both kinds of flags at youth matches locally so someone must be selling both kinds.

As long as the height is at least 5 ft...it is ok.
