Question Number: 18772Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 4/12/2008RE: Select High School Dave Eberle of Clarkston, WA USA asks...No Calls
At a recent high school match, a lone forward dribbled the ball up the middle. As he neared the penalty area, he became sandwiched between two defenders. The defenders made a few fair shoulder charges. The defenders were within playing distance of the ball. Once inside the penalty area, the forward's feet got tangled up with a defender's feet, and the forward fell down. I was about 10 yards away from the fall when it happened. I was wide of the action and had a clear side view. In my opinion, the defenders did not commit a foul. The forward and his coaches were upset that I didn't signal a penalty kick.
I have seen some referees say, "Nothing's there" in similar circumstances.
Do you recommend a better statement or signal that I should make for no calls under stressful circumstances?
Thank you. Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Just make a motion to "get up". This is usually all we need to do.
Regards,
