Law 16 - Goal Kick 4/19/2008

RE: Rec Under 9

Michael Kilgore of Denver, CO USA asks...

Red kicks the ball past the end line, resulting in a blue goal kick. Blue's keeper retrieves the ball from off the field and then, before placing the ball for the kick and for no good reason, throws the ball into his own net. (Eight-year-olds!) What's the right call?

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Well you can caution him for delaying the restart of play, laugh at his little joke or make one of your own -- Blow really hard, shout out that's goalkeeper's goal; sixteen and a half points for Red! Then go get the ball and place it for a goal kick.

That should prevent it happening in future...

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

I'm not sure at U9 I would even caution the player. I would talk with him and restart with the goal kick. Obviously there is no goal
