Law 16 - Goal Kick 4/25/2008

in what year did the rule change where you could take a goal kick on either side desite which side of the goal the ball went out.

In all my studies of the laws, I never knew there was a time when the goal kick had to be taken from one side or the other. That said, it might have been the case at one time. SM

The change was as of 1 July 1992. Referees who were certified after that time missed out on this bit of trivia. This applies to any free kick awarded to the defenders within their own goal area.
