Question Number: 18936Kicks From The Penalty mark 4/30/2008RE: Other Thomas Hughes of Dublin, Ireland asks...In a penalty shoot out situation, a player shoots a penalty, the keeper pushes it onto the goal post, it rebounds off the goal post, hits the keeper on the back and goes in. Is that counted as a goal? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Thomas, hopefully the referee did not blow the whistle too soon as this is a legal goal under ANY conditions. regulation, overtime, extended pk or shoot out as in kicks from the penalty mark. Once the energy imparted into the ball from the kicker is transferred we wait until that energy from the ball is spent! In this case the energy it retained after the save by the keeper, after it hit the post and after it rebounded back again off the keeper it had energy to completely cross the goal line under the crossbar and between the posts only if a referee was smart enough to not prematurely end the match or phase of play by blowing the whistle. Cheers
