Question Number: 18945League Specific 4/30/2008Steve of Stockton, CA USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 18900 I have never worked a high school game, and my own HS playing career was so long ago that the referees used stone whistles, but tonight at my daughter's match, I noticed that the referees (dual system) were blowing their whistles EVERY SINGLE TIME the ball left the FOP. Talk about annoying! I started to wonder if their day jobs were as traffic cops! Is this more prevalent in the dual system to make sure the 'other ref' knows the ball is out of play? Or were the refs at this match particularly whistle-happy? Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino I don't know. The whistle isn't required for ball out of play in HS. So you'd really have to ask them what all the whistling was about.
