Question Number: 19299Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 6/7/2008RE: Competitive High School Dave of Woodbury, NJ United States asks...Recently, I was refereeing a boys' high school playoff game. A midfielder from one team who was particularly flashy flipped the ball up into the air and caught in in the crook of his neck. He then proceeded to run the majority of the length of the field with the ball in place there. The defenders weren't sure of how to attack the ball without being called for a foul. Were the midfielder's actions legal?
Thanks, Dave Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Dave, ask yourself if the ball may be safely played by any other player? If the answer is no, and you know it is, whistle and award that player's opponents an indirect free kick at the point the first opponent gave up play for the ball.
Regards,
