as a defender can you be within the 10 yards of the corner arc on a corner kick if there's a defender preparing to take a short pass?

Teammates may be as close to the ball as they wish on a corner kick. Opponents must stay at least 10 yards away.

Hi Jeff,
confusing you use the word defender twice?
NO the defenders can not be within the 10 yards from the attacking corner!
Actually all opponets must be minimum 10 yards from the corner arc as the ball could be anywhere within that 1 yard arc radius
Your team mates on your corner can be closer than 10 yards as in most any free kick, PK exempted of course

No. Opponents MUST give at least 10 yards. Teammates are free to be anywhere they wish.
