Question Number: 19492

Kicks From The Penalty mark 6/23/2008

RE: rec Adult

william of Kingston, Jamaica asks...

This question is a follow up to question 19375

extra time in a game has just ended. My opponient replace their regular keeper whom was not injury during the regular game, for teh penality shoot out. Is this fair by the law of teh game?

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi William,
technically if they switch him out him with one of the other ten players on the field at the end of the match this is fine. Once a match has ended and KFTPM are started no substitution can be made UNLESS the keeper is atually injured and cannot continue this exemption though is a loophole that some might exploit to get a new shooter onto the field then be replaced with another switch as ANY player on the field can be the keeper. The referee must be informed prior to the shot and the jersey switched for identification purposes. Cheers

The way you write this... no it's not fine. The match ended and then the keeper was subbed - it must occur in the other order.

The only way to legally sub the keeper off after the match has ended is if he is injured and cannot continue, and if the team has any substitutes remaining.

Depends. Is the player substituting for the keepr on the field of play when extra time ends? If so, this is legal. the only time one of the players NOT on the field at the end of extra time may come in is if the keeper is injured during the kicks from the penalty mark phase.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

The keeper can be replced with another player provided the referee is informed and it is changed during a stoppage. If a team wishes to change keepers with a substitute from the bench during kicks from the mak, then it must be for a sutuation described by referee Montanino.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

An outfield player changing places with the keeper is a right, provided the referee is first notified. Once the match and extra time end substitution of the keeper is only permitted if he is injured, provided a substitute remains. To bring a new keeper in from the bench in the manner suggested is not within the Laws of the Game.

Regards,
