Question Number: 19580League Specific 7/7/2008RE: Competitive Under 16 Heather of Morris, New York United States asks...In New York State, there is a new regualtion on shin guards. Apparently it covers your shin better according to your height. It has to have a some letters or numbers printed on them. Does anybody know this code? thanks Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer This is a high school thing unless New York has adopted those regulations for all youth players. The National Federation of State High School Associations [NFHS] has decreed that shinguards are not sufficient protection unless they are approved by the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment [NOCSAE]. Further the shinguard should have a marking denoting how tall the player is. Again this is US High School ONLY. For the rest of the world shinguards are shinguards and if manufactured as such they are legal if covered entirely by the stocking, made of suitable material and provide a reasonable degree of protection. Regards,
