Question Number: 19677League Specific 8/1/2008RE: Rec Under 9 Robert Ward of Vacaville, California USA asks...Sorry for the stupid question but I am learning as I continue coaching my child. What are the modified rules for U9 boys? How many players from my team on the field? What is the dimension of the field? What is the names of the positions? Thanks for your help. Robert Answer provided by Referee Gene Nagy Robert, these questions should be addressed to the league under which jurisdiction you play. It is very important that you contact the league in Vacaville because they will not only help you with answers to these questions they should also provide you with other basic information like etiquette on the soccer field, coaching tips and who is who is who on the league executive. Associations have widely varying rules for mini soccer. Here in British Columbia there are set guidelines for each age group in mini soccer. We progressively build up to eleven aside soccer at age ten or eleven. But even then the rules may vary from club to club. On this website we pretty well deal with eleven a side soocer, which is governed by FIFA (the world body) in a book called The Laws of the Game which can be found on this or the FIFA website. Good luck!

You will find that the length and width of the field will vary a great deal from location to location at very low levels of play as there usually is no set standard. Some leagues play U9 without a penalty area
