Question Number: 19913Law 15 - Throw In 9/9/2008RE: Compettive Adult David Williams of Ottawa, Ontatrio Canada asks...Hi, What is the allowed method for delivering a throw in? i.e positioninig of feet and hands. Thanks, David Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney There are only 5 criteria for a legal throw-in. 1) Both (or all) hands on the ball 2) The ball is delivered from behind and over the head 3) Some part of both feet must be behind or on the touchline (touching the ground) 4) The throw must be taken from the point on the touchline where it left the field (or within a metre/3 feet) 5) The thrower must face the field (not hard to do - but very hard not to do) The ball is in play when it has broken the outside plane of the field (the outside edge of the touchline) AND has left the hands of the thrower. A throw-in cannot be taken from a kneeling position, but flip throws that meet the above criteria are acceptable.
