KB of Montoursville, PA USA asks...

Are there any written specifications as to how far fans are to be from the playing field. Also are there any variables involved such as fences or any other barrier between the fans and the playing field.

These would all be up to the competition authority - in high school, the state athletic association.

Speaking as a referee for unmarked fields 5 meters back from the touchlines not in behind the 18 penalty areas unless stadium seating. I will not start the match unless this is complied with.
