Question Number: 20281

Law 15 - Throw In 10/17/2008

RE: Grade 7 Adult

Tim Clemmer of Palmer , Alaska USA. asks...

Gentlemen there is a quiz question on www.corshamref.net web site, page 3, question # 19. This question asks, ' Is there any situation during the game where a player taking a throw-in, can legally touch the ball again, after he has legally thrown it into play, but before it has been touched by another player'? There answer is yes. This is a brain teaser question, so am I being teased , or am I being 'not as think as you thick you are' as it states at the bottom of the test page? Please fill me in. Tim.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Usually these types of trick questions involve a halftime between the two touches. However I can think of another involving a foul. Does that help dispell the thickness?

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

There are always funny circumstances the throw in enters the field but the referee blows to end the half, the thrower takes the kick off or a opposing player fouls during the time the throw in enters the field and the thrower takes the new dfk or indfk restart. Just because we can work the circumstances tis rare ndeed you will see it!
Cheers
