is it possible to score a goal directly from a throw in without the ball touching another player from either team? i thought not but we had one ruled against us recently in a game. thanks for your help..

It is an impossibility to be scored upon from a DIRECT Throw in by either team either as an own goal or one by the opposition.
If you threw the ball into YOUR own goal it is a corner kick for the opposition . If the opposition threw the ball into your goal it is a goal kick for you!
Keep in mind that the slightest touch of the ball against any player accidental or not once the ball is properly throw in to play will make it a legal goal.

No it is not, unless your referee was ignorant of the Laws Of The Game and allowed a goal to be scored directly from a throw-in
