Question Number: 20660

League Specific 12/11/2008

RE: High School High School

Candace Nicholas of San Lorenzo, CA Alameda asks...

My son's league team is having 'informal Practices' and ''just for fun' practice games between now and end of high school season. He plays on the high school team. Is it allowed for him to participate in his league team's practices or practice games?

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

I assume you are saying your son plays high school soccer AND club soccer during the same time period. What he is allowed to do we here at asktheref have no idea. This would have to do with club policies, high school policies, and any policies imposed by the coaches. For example, were I a high school coach I certainly wouldn't want one of my players risking injury participating in club fun games.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

The only issue I have in playing for different leagues or agencies is he insured if he is injured? If there is an association or league policy that forbids it best check the by laws and ask a director for information. Generally high school leagues and community leagues are separate agencies so it is usually not an issue. In that this is practise doubly not an issue. However speaking as a coach what type of practise and is it too much soccer?
Cheers
