Question Number: 20703

League Specific 12/31/2008

RE: school High School

Susanne Bowen of Twin city , GA USA asks...

I am attempting to start a league at my school. I am not getting much help from my athletic director. I have found the GA hs athletics web site and am planning onattending the rules clinic. I have attended the clinic in the past and it seems most of the attendees are experienced and do not share my questions. I merely want to know the deminsions of a GA high schoo soccer field...how to mark it also.

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

I'm sure the high school fields are shown in the National Federation of High Schools Rule Book, and they are probably also online at their website. I believe the HS field dimensions correspond roughly to the FIFA/USSF field diagrams and sizes. You can find those at the http://www.ussoccer.com/laws/index.jsp.html site, under Law 1.

I am sorry to see such discourse in the opportunities and exchange of information at the school. I suppose those reluctant have reasons more work, responsibilities etc.. but soccer is such a great sport and it seems ashame those involved on the kids side of it are unwilling to help. I hope things work out! My colleague Ref Maloney has provided what you require
Cheers

According to the NFHS 2008-09 High School Soccer Rules, rule 1, Article 1 the field of play shall be rectangular, 100 to 120 yards long and 55 to 80 yards wide. 110 by 65 is recommended as a minimum dimension.

Regards,

Amazingly, there is no GHSA Soccer rule book. GHSA uses the NFHS rule book. However, if you go to the GHSA website you can order the NFHS rule book. There are also rules clinics throughout the state in January. I don't know where Twin City is but on Jan 3 there's a rules clinic at Wheeler High School in Marietta. You are going to have to have your athletics department contact GHSA and become a member school before you will be able to schedule any matches. If there is so little interest in soccer at your school it may be best to try to get intramural soccer started first.
