RE: competitive High School

jim schwarz of kingwood, tx usa asks...

if a goal is scored on a throw-in off the goalies hands what is the player throwing in the throwin credited with? A goal or an assist or what.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

The referee notes A Goal for the team that took the throw. (You obviously realize that because the goalkeeper touched it on the way in, it did not go into the net directly from the throw, and so it counts.)

Individual statistics such as assists are credited by the coaching staff or broadcasters.

Could be classified as an own goal but who cares it counts. The thrower will get their alcolades whether or not ot shows on the stats!

Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

Neither.

The player can't score directly from the throw-in. This will be called an 'own goal' credited to the opposing goalkeeper.
