Question Number: 20802Mechanics 2/3/2009RE: Adult stu of Manchester, uk asks...why is it that the linesmen always run to the ref at half/full time? is it so they dont get lost? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney Very funny. Mostly, it's to ask where they are meeting for a beer afterwards.

View Referee Michelle Maloney profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Actually they're not called linesmen any more, they have been called assistant referees since July 1997. Where have you been all that time? Lost?
The reason this is done, in the USA for example, is because there is a written procedure telling us to do it that way. Perhaps it is the same in the UK. Might want to check with The FA on that one.
