Question Number: 20816League Specific 2/6/2009RE: level 8, Rec Other John Martocci of Prince Frederick, Maryland Calvert asks...What would be the minimum age for a Referee(Level 8) to officiate games? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer The answer to your question lies in the by-laws of the league in which the referee is working. Many youth leagues like their referees to be older than the players, some by at least 2 years. US Soccer states the minimum age for upgrade to Referee 1 is 17 and requires an assessment on a full length U-19, or higher, match. It would seem that sometimes a young referee must officiate in a match where the players are older than he is. Regards,

At some point, she would be edged out by higher grade referees. So if I understand the question correctly, the answer is a grade 8 referee can do any age group game, unless restrictions have been placed on the referee due to the referee's age by the association or league for whom she works.
