Question Number: 21077League Specific 4/2/2009RE: Rec Under 16 Tim Trauth of New Orleans, La USA asks...How many coaches are allowed on the bench, and how many can stand? Following the NFHS rules. Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney NFHS rules regarding coaches and bench behavior are no different in spirit than the Laws of the Game. They are a bit more specific.
Coaches and bench personnel are confined to the designated team areas. The coach is not allowed on the field unless beckoned by the referee. The coach must behave in a responsible manner, and in HS can be cautioned or sent off for many of the same reasons as players. They are also responsible for the behavior of those on their benches, and can be disciplined if someone on their bench misbehaves. In other words, the coach can get a card for the behavior of a player(s) or other bench personnel.
