Question Number: 21098Other 4/7/2009RE: High School Steve of St. Louis, MO USA asks...During a recent weather delay, talk shifted to how the game would look if there were no offside rule. We had a lively discussion around whether there would be more scoring - or less, possible game strategies and the probability of more fights as defenders tired of 'cherry-picking' antics from lazy forwards. To be clear - no one was advocating a change to the LOTG. We were just killing time in the tent waiting for the lightning to pass. Any thoughts? Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino The game would end up with fewer goals, I think. I would envision teams feeling the need to pack defenders in front of their goal due to cherry pickers. Then there would be a lot of long kicking from end to end, all that great play in the middle of the field would be reduced.
